BADMINTON LINE JUDGES ASSOCIATION (BLJAofE) INITIAL TRAINING COURSE FROM 11.00am ON 1st SEPTEMBER 2018 AT MILTON KEYNES

The BLJAofE are looking for enthusiastic badminton supporters to train to be badminton line judges leading to the opportunity to officiate at a variety of events at home and abroad. The course will include theoretical and practical elements and will be run in cooperation with the Badminton Umpires Association of England. Successful trainees will be offered the chance initially to gain experience at local events leading to officiating at major events. A £10 fee is payable for the course, but successful trainees will receive a year's free membership of the BLJAofE worth £10. Under 18s are free.

Subject to progressing satisfactorily, successful trainees will have the chance to line judge at major events in the UK such as the All England, English Nationals and Welsh Open and the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham . We also provide line judges for the Scottish Open and there will be opportunities to line judge at many national championships in Europe and as far afield as USA, Australia and New Zealand. Depending upon the event, members receive expenses to assist with food, travel and accommodation. At the majority of overseas events, line judges receive free accommodation, uniforms and food and refreshments. For the first trip per season to European events, a £50 subsidy is payable by the BLJAofE.

No previous experience is necessary but a knowledge of the rules of badminton, an understanding of when the shuttle is in or out and good eyesight are an advantage.

Well organised and enjoyable. The video clips of shuttles landing close to the lines were interesting, but one "slider" was difficult to see. May I suggest if possible using clips where the call was reviewed by Hawkeye to show the landing in slow motion?
